This is a Web site of the New England Journal of Medicine, owned and published by the Massachusetts Medical Society. WHAT INFORMATION DO WE COLLECT?

Information You Provide to Us

We will request information from you if you submit a manuscript or letter. This requires the input of personal information that may include, but is not limited to, details such as your name, address (postal and e-mail), telephone number, or demographic information, and those of your co-authors.

Information That Is Automatically Collected

We also collect general data about the movement of visitors through our site, but this does not use any personally identifiable information. This may include IP address, host name, domain name, browser version and platform, date and time of requests, and pages requested. This information is used to measure and analyze traffic and usage of the site.

Cookies
Cookies are small files stored on your computer that we use to recognize you. The manuscript submission cookie stores the information you have sent us on your computer as well as our database until you have completed your submission. This allows you to interrupt your submission and return to it later. The cookie is deleted at the end of the submission process or expires one week later if the submission is not completed. Most web browsers automatically accept cookies, but you can usually change your browser to prevent this, although you may not be able to submit your manuscript without them.

Clear Gifs (Web Beacons/Web Bugs)
Clear gifs are tiny graphics with unique identifiers that function similarly to cookies and allow us to track site activity. We do not use these to collect personally identifiable information.

Advertisement Servers
CheckM8 serves advertising on the New England Journal of Medicine Web site. CheckM8 does not collect any personally identifiable information regarding consumers who view or interact with CheckM8 advertisements. HOW IS THIS INFORMATION USED?

WHAT SECURITY MEASURES ARE USED?

We take every precaution to protect our users’ information. When you submit information via the Author Center, your information is protected both online and off-line. We use the latest Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology, which encrypts all your personal information. It is unreadable as it travels across the Internet.
